Julio III pontifici maximo scenatus consules, comites, barones, proceres, nobiles, magistratus, universique regni Scotie status post humillimam apud illius pedes prostrationem et eorum oscula S[alutem] optant P[lurimam]. R. K. Hannay: Acts of Lords of Council in Public Affairs, p. liv). John Marjoribanks 1557.

Marjoribanks of Hallyards life renter, (Marjoribanks younger of Hallyards fiar).

On the Muir of Gogar, in 1606, during the prevalence of a plague, certain little “lodges” were built by James Lawriston, and two other persons named respectively as David and George Hamilton, for the accommodation of the infected but these edifices were violently destroyed by Major Marjoribanks, a partitioner of Ratho, on his plea that their erection was an invasion of his lands, yet the Lords of the Council ordered them to be rebuilt, “where they may have the best commodity of water,” as the said Muir was a common property.

31st August 1682 George Marchbanks had a daughter baptised named Jean.

George was captured during the Jacobite uprising and deported to Virginia. Married Ann Eckols in 1721.

Marjoribanks valuation in 1768 £962-13s/4d.

On 1st Sept 1824 the Freedom of the City of Edinburgh was bestowed on Charles Marjoribanks Esquire, of the Civil Service of the Honourable, East India Company.
