P. Barry gathering in the sheaves at Malcolmstone Farm prior to moving to Ratho Mains. The sheaves were originally gathered and tied by hand, a cold job on a wet day and of course you were stung by nettles and thistles etc. as you carried out the task. By this time bailers were in use which gathered and tied the sheaves but they still had to be stacked by hand.
